A new gathering place for makers, curious minds, and the creatively curious, the Art Studios are home to two exciting artist residencies: Our Folk and Rook ARI.
Over the next six months, they'll be working, creating, and running workshops right here in Milly’s Backyard.
Whether you're a seasoned maker or a complete beginner, both artists’ bookable workshops are designed to be hands-on and social, with personalised guidance every step of the way.
Learn to carve your own ring with Our Folk, print a custom clay tile with Rook ARI's Ellen Broadhurst, or simply pop your head in to say hello and see what's taking shape.
Workshops are designed for all ages and experience levels, making a visit to the Art Studios the perfect opportunity to meet new people, pick up new skills, and take home something custom-made by you.
The best part? You don't need to know what you're doing. That's what the artists are here for.
Each studio hosts a different artist for six months at a time. Both run their own workshops, open to anyone who wants to book in.
Pick a session that interests you, secure your spot, and show up. Everything else, from tools to materials to guidance, is provided by the artists.
Our Folk is a Boorloo/Perth jewellery studio grounded in community and hands-on making. Their workshops are relaxed, intimate, and designed for complete beginners through to experienced makers.
You'll work with proper jeweller's tools, guided one-on-one by a local artist, to design and handcraft your own ring in wax or metal. They offer custom ring carving sessions as well as private wedding band workshops for couples.
All of their casting is done locally in Western Australia using reclaimed or ethically certified precious metals.
Rook ARI is an artist-run residency program, bringing a new artist into the studio every 12 weeks.
First up is Ellen Broadhurst, a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture and experimental film.
Ellen is running clay tile workshops where you can create your own wall-hangable tile in a guided, hands-on session. Create a custom design featuring your own image or choose from Ellen’s range of designs.
Open to adults and children, no experience required.
